Some systems use a separate pin and retainer. Others use an integrated lock or a dedicated hammerless assembly. Match all required components to the tooth and adapter specification. Pin direction is an identification clue, not sufficient proof of compatibility. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance on inspection and replacement of used hardware.
Inspect the assembly
Clean the assembly and inspect the pin, retainer, lock seat and adapter opening. Missing, damaged or incorrectly seated hardware can allow a tooth to move or detach. Use the specified replacement components and installation procedure. Do not force a mismatched pin into place.
